This 12 months, TV has given us no longer one – however 3 – superbly sharp-tongued, do not-mess-with-me younger feminine characters. And ‘sassy lady’ is a personality archetype we can completely get on board with.
First, we had Chloe in Big Little Lies, a watch-rolling, tune-loving, dude of a seven-12 months-previous, who put the neurotic mums of Monterey to disgrace. Then we had the sheer pleasure of Lady Lyanna Mormont in [Game Of Thrones, a 10-year-previous whose unwavering bravery, loyalty, and steely-eyed decision – to not point out her knack for mic-shedding in a room of grown males – makes her the final badass.
And now we have Erica – Lucas’ little sister in Stranger Things 2. She steals each and every scene she’s in, whether or not she’s piss-taking her brother, ripping his buddies on his walkie-talkie, or pouring syrup on her breakfast. The lady is hilarious.
It was that younger girls in TV presentations have been there as the spoilt prissy foil to their adventurous brothers. Or the screaming, terrified kid who wishes saving/protective. BORING. But in 2017, we’ve were given a brand new more or less pre-teenager for girls to appear as much as – and adults like us to respect. Let’s listen it for humorous, feisty, 0-f*ck-giving Queens of Sass.
